Through the fall, she was still determined to share her hair. Then a cute little Disney movie called Tangled came out. Rapunzel! We walked out of the movie theater where Abigail told me that she wanted to keep her long hair. "I look like Rapunzel and I love my long, beautiful hair! I don't think I want to share it any more." The decision was hers. Scott and I were not about to pressure her into something she did not want to do.
Over the next few months I would occasionally ask Abigail if she was ready to cut her hair. Most of these conversations took place while I was brushing through her lovely tangled locks. She loved her hair, but brushing it out daily was never really pleasant. She is very tender-headed and her long hair tangled so easily. The tangles and "torturous" brushing was never enough for her to want to cut it. She loved wearing pretty bows and pulling back into a ponytail or piggy tails.
One day, while we were snowed in. Abigail and Scott were watching TV and a St. Jude's commercial came on. Abigail listened and watched. When it was over she turned to Scott and asked, "Are those the kids that need my hair?" Scott told her that those were some kids that would be very happy to have her hair. "Daddy, I think I'm ready to share my hair" she told him. They came upstairs to share the news with me. She asked me if I would call Ashley, my stylist, to see if she could cut her hair so that she could share it with someone. We got the appointment, but she would have to wait 2 days before we could get in.
Friday, February 11th. Abigail gets up and the first thing she says to me is, "Mommy! Guess what today is! It's Friday and I get to share my hair today!"
I asked her if she was going to be sad that she wouldn't have a ponytail or piggy tails anymore. She giggled and said, "That's silly mommy! I won't be sad. I get to make another little girl happy with my ponytail." I was blown away! We made our way to Trichology Salon and she climbed right up into Ashley's chair.
She sat perfectly still and was quiet as Ashley braided and measured her hair. As Scott, Ashby and I watched (with a few others in the salon), Ashley snip, snip, snipped and we had a beautiful, braided 10 inch ponytail to bless someone with.
Then came time for her new, super cute haircut. She did great! And she LOVES her new do...we do, too!

After walking around for a bit, she told Scott and I, "I'm still the same Abigail. I just have a really cute hair cut!". The sweet girls at Trichology gave her a special treat. New hair cut, chocolate and getting to bless someone else...a perfect day.
I love her little 5 year old heart. What a kind and generous thing to do. She really is an amazingly thoughtful little girl.
