Snow Days

Day #3 of being "snowed in." We actually ventured out...2 miles anyway...to the Thunder basketball game last night. It was nice to get out and the four of us had a great time, but it was slick the entire way. There were crews out salting and scraping, but it is so cold, the roads just keep refreezing and there is a thick sheet of ice left. Thankfully Scott was driving. There is no way I'm about to get behind a wheel in this stuff!

I've really enjoyed being "stuck at home" with my family. Of course Scott has been working a bit, but since most of his customers are snowed in, too, he hasn't been terribly busy. It's been nice to just hang out and chat. The girls have enjoyed being able to go into Scott's office and "work" with him. So cute. He sets up a little area for them to color and write and let's them draw on his white board. Scott has also taken the time to "teach" Abigail different things as they come up. Homeschooling at it's finest! We've been in our pj's most of the day and haven't really sat down at the table to "do school," but I think they've probably learned more life applicable things in the past couple of days than what I could have taught them in their workbooks.  We've cuddled and watched some of their favorite shows, had dance parties, colored, painted, baked cookies and of course we've had lots and lots of play time! Abigail and Ashby love playing with their dollhouse that they got for Christmas. It's funny to listen to them be the mommy, daddy and kids. They've also built some great things with their Treo blocks and Legos. And the snow! We had a fun time (Abigail more than Ashby) playing outside in the snow.

Since the roads are still so bad, our scheduled activities were canceled today. While I was really looking forward to seeing our friends, I'm not sad about another family day. So today we're relaxing and doing pretty much what we've done the past 2 days...in pj's eating, coloring, etc. I'm getting some Valentine's Day crafts and such together, to maybe we'll do some of that today. We're going to have to make a Target run at some point. We are on our last 1/2 gallon of milk, running low on toilet paper and completely out of dishwasher detergent. Should be a fun adventure on the ice and in the frigid temps. I'm thinking our next family car will definitely be a heavy one and possibly a 4WD for times like this.

One final thought: Since most of the city, state of Oklahoma really was shut down or at least most people were snowed in and unable to go to work/school, I'm wondering how many babies will be born in October/November?!?!?! You see, we have 2 October babies...well Ashby was actually born in September, but she was due in October. She just came 4 weeks early. And Abigail was actually conceived while we were stuck in New York during the January Blizzard of 2005. Yes, I always get pregnant this time of year. :) I'm thinking Oklahoma maternity wards will be busy in about 9 months.

I hope you've enjoyed your snow days as much as we have!

  1. Haha! I've thought the same thing about the number of babies born 9 months from now! Who knows? Maybe you'll be one of those mothers in the maternity ward then too! Why not go for three October babies! :)
